Welcome to the news and calendar of the York Shotokan Karate Club. Kihon (基本: きほん, Kihon?) Literally means the base or foundation. We also teach self defense and control techniques. You will see examples of kumite (sparing), kata (form) and kihon (basics). Classes consist of several areas of training: Kihon (basics), Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring). Usually divided into three parts: Kihon (basics), kata (forms or patterns of moves), and kumite (sparring). Although I do not practice Shotokan, the Japanese karate masters typically refer to the 3 K's standards of traditional karate training: (1) Kihon, (2) Kata, (3) Kumite. , located in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Classes are run year round and offer instruction for all ages. JSKA Rochester is a community education program offered through the Rochester Community Schools and is affiliated with the Japanese Shotokan Karate-do Association-J.K.A.
